Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of equipment and treating expenses required to wash activated carbon after activation by treating activated carbon of ≥500°C with a washing liq. of ≥76°C under ordinary pressure.
CONSTITUTION: When activated carbon as a hot intermediate product after activation is washed, activated carbon of ≥500°C is directly charged into a washing liq. of ≥76°C under ordinary pressure and washing without cooling or storage unlike a conventional method. As a result, the carbon is instantaneously dipped in the liq. while preventing the breakdown of the granules of the intermediate product and an intermediate product floating phenomenon, and washing operation can be performed at once. Thus, equipment such as a cooler or a storage tank for the intermediate product is made unnecessary, and the consumption of energy, inert gas, etc. required for cooling or storage is throrougly eliminated. By carrying out the same process as that of a conventional method thereafter, activated carbon with high characteristic is obtd.
