Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the removal of an active ingredient, to provide good result of germination, and to repel birds, e.g., pigeons, crows, etc. effectively and efficiently even on a rainy day, by treating the seed of a useful plant with an anthraquinone hydride.
CONSTITUTION: The seed of a useful plant, e.g., grain, rice, wheat, corn, vegetable, spinach, especially beans, is treated with an anthraquinone hydride, e.g., anthrahydroquinone, 1,4,4a,9a-tetrahydroanthraquinone, 1,4-dihydroanthraquinone, or their salts. The treatment is carried out by dissolving an anthraquinone hydride in an organic solvent, e.g., ethyl alcohol, which is readily usable in a farmhouse, or using an aqueous solution of the salt of an anthraquinone hydride to be dissolved in water redily, to repel birds. A concentration of tue solution is usually 0.05W 15wt% (calculated as anthraquinone). An adhesion amount of the anthraquinone hydride is about 0.005W about 2wt% calculated as anthraquinone.
