Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a universal motor for which step-down and pressure resisting means are not particularly required by controlling current flowing to each element of armature coils according to magnetizing polarity and rotary position of a rotor yoke magnetized by a field coil. CONSTITUTION:Upon closing an AC power E, a field coil 8 of a motor M is excited in AC, and rotor yokes 6a, 6b are magnetized synchronously with an AC field generated on a field yoke 7. Then, since a magnetizing polarity of the field yoke 7 and the rotor yoke 6a changes in phase, a polarity of the rotor yoke 6a, for example, is detected on a magnetizing polarity detecting element 16, and its output signal is sent to a polarity decision circuit 22. Further, those of position detecting elements 15a-15c which correspond accordingly are turned on by a polarity of poles of the rotor yokes 6a, 6b, a high-level signal from the polarity decision circuit 22 and a position signal forming circuit 21 turns on suitable one of transistors 24a-25c through a selector circuit 23, and a current is carried to armature coils 10a-10c through a full-wave rectification circuit 26.
