PURPOSE: To depress the apparent Krafft point of a 10W18C 2-hydroxyalkanesulfonic acid salt (hereafter called 2-HOS), by adding an inorganic magnesium salt to an aqueous solution of liquid detergent containing 2-HOS.
CONSTITUTION: Krafft point of an aqueous solution of a 10W18C 2-HOS can be depressed by adding 0.1W5mol, based on 1mol of 2-HOS, of an inorganic magnesium salt such as MgCl2, MgSO4, etc. The apparent depression of the Krafft point is about 30°C, and the clouding of the solution (generation of insoluble matter) can be prevented. One of the interpretation of the phenomenon is that the inorganic magnesium salt has some effect to the intramolecular hydrogen bond between the hydrogen atom of the hydroxyl group and the oxygen atom of the sulfon group.
