Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the solubilizng power, emulsifying power, dispersing power, etc., of titled adduct, by esterifying a portion of the free hydroxyl groups of glucose units with acyl groups containing an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain, and adding ethylene oxide to a different portion of the free hydroxyl groups.
CONSTITUTION: An oligostarch, polymerization degree of glucose units 2W40, on average, is employed as a starting material. A portion (0.01W0.5, on average, per 3 free hydroxyl groups in the glucose units) of the hydroxyl groups in this starting material are esterified with acyl groups having a C5WC19 aliphatic hydrocarbon chain, and at the same time, 0.3W2.0mol glucose unit, of ethylene oxide is added to the remaining free hydroxyl groups. The oligostarch ester/ethyelen oxide adduct thus perpared has excellent solubilizing power, emulsifying power, dispersing power and rust-inhibiting power, and is acid-resistant, alkali-resistant and less toxic.
