Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out the tape position retrieval easily and securely even when reproduction cannot be done in rapid forward and rewinding by concentratedly recording whole indexes in which the magnetic tape of a head part, etc. is formed in a specified area by retrieval information on plural pieces of recording information.

CONSTITUTION: In a specific area such as a head part of the magnetic tape, with reference to all of plural units of information recorded on the magnetic tape, the retrieval information such as a start position of each recording information, a completion position address, an index, etc. representing its recording information is formed and all indexes are recorded. These all indexes are regenerated, written in a memory of CPU, the retrieval information corresponding to a desired record is latched to a latching circuit 44 and by the comparison with the counting value of an optical chopper detecting output of the driving system accompanied with travelling of the tape through an updown counter 42, the determination of the tape travelling direction and the control of the updown selector 41 and the like are carried out. While monitoring the retrieval condition, even in the tape recorder in which during the rapid forward and rewinding, reproduction cannot be done, the retrieval of the tape recording information is carried out easily and effectively.
