Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain a correct position by swinging a pickup which is running relatively to an extending direction of a recording track up and down or in right and left direction periodically with respect to the base of a recording center line and detecting the fluctuation of the regeneration signal.
CONSTITUTION: The pickup 1 is provided with a head 4 through an electro-mechanical converter 3 at an end portion of the arm 2. By applying a swinging signal to terminals 3a, 3b of the converter 3, the head 4 is so composed as to be swung in the right and left direction with respect to the recording center line. When the pickup 1 traces a correct position, the peak value of the regeneration signal scarcely changes. However, when the pickup shifts upward, the regeneration output is lowered and when it is shifted downward, the regeneration output is lowered. When the pickup position is controlled so as to return to a correct position by detecting this change through the electro-mechanical converter 9, a correct trace is constantly performed. Accordingly, by composing the pickup in this manner, the correct position of the pickup is maintained.
