Abstract
PURPOSE:To set rotational inertia of a flywheel variable by filling up with liquid a hollow space in the periphery of the flywheel installed to a capstan which drives tape of a video tape recorder and by enabling the liquid to be switched in either a flowing or nonflowing condition. CONSTITUTION:When a switch 13 is turned off, electric current does not flow to an exciting coil 10. Therefore, a core 9 is not excited, and an opening/closing member 5 is rotated by a spring in the similar direction to the rotation of a flywheel. Liquid 4 is thus changed into a flowing condition. As the liquid filled in a hollow space member 3 does not follow the rotation of the flywheel due to static inertia, the mass of the flywheel is small and the moment of inertia is reduced. As a result, the flywheel can be quickly switched over so as to turn round intermittently or either clockwise or counter-clockwise. When the switch 13 is turned on, electric current flows to the exciting coil 10. Therefore, the core 9 is excited and the opening/closing member is rotated. Then the liquid filled in the hollow space member 3 is switched over from a flowing condition to a nonflowing condition and moment of inertia is increased, which allows the flywheel to rotate at a specified speed.
