Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit the defect position on a steel plate to be readily discriminated without harming it mechanically and chemically by impressing a magnetic mark upon the defect position on a steel plate.
CONSTITUTION: Provided are flaw-detecting mirrors 4a and 4b, a magnetizer 5, a controller 6 for it, a pin-hole detector 7 and a steel-plate moving length detector 8. The pin-hole detector 7 comprises a light projector and a light receiver. The steel- plate moving length detector 8 comprises a magnetizer 8a, a magnetic mark detector 8b and a driver 8c. The magnetizer 8a impresses a magnetic mark upon a steel plate 1, and when the magnetic mark passes under the detector 8b, it sends a signal to the driver 8c. This actuates the magnetizer 8a to impress a magnetic mark upon the steel plate 1. After a pin-hole is detected by the pin-hole detector 7, the fact that the steel plate 1 has moved a certain distance is detected by reading the magnetic marks, and a magnetic mark is impressed upon the pin-hole position by the magnetizer 5.
