Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish early detection of longitudinal breakage of a belt by a method wherein anodes and cathodes where a number of parallel wires are attached in the form of teeth of a comb are combined alternately into conductors and they are installed at specified places under the belt so that both electrodes can be short- circuited by falling ores.
CONSTITUTION: When a belt conveyor 1 is in drive, the ores loaded on a conveyor belt 3 are transported from a hopper 2 in an arrow direction. Conductors 4 are arranged under the belt 3 where longitudinal breakage are liable to occur, such as under the chute near the hopper 2, under a falling position near the top 3' of an upward slope, etc. in order to detect the longitudinal breakage of the belt. This conductor 4 consists of a cathode where a number of wires 6 are arranged in parallel at specified intervals and side substances 6' with which wire ends on one side are connected are arranged in the form of teeth of a comb and an anode which is made up similarly of wires 7 and side substances 7' in the form of teeth of a comb. Longitudinal breakage are detected when both electrodes are short-circuited by the ores which have fallen from broken portion on the belt.
