PURPOSE: To lower the Mg content of natural or chemical gypsum powder and prevent the occurrence of efflorescence by treating the powder with MgSO4 of a specified concn. in hot water of a specified pH at a specified temp.
CONSTITUTION: Natural or chemical gypsum fine powder is heat-treated in hot water of 2W5.5pH contg. 1W10wt% MgSO4 at 110W150°C to obtain α-type hemihydrate gypsum. The resulting gypsum is washed with warm water of about 95W 100°C.
