Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to extend life of plungers, by installing a swelled part at the lower part of the bar plunger made of refractories reinforced with steel bars at the center, so that surfacing of treatment substances may be prevented.
CONSTITUTION: The bar plunger is composed of refractories 2 reinforced with steel bar 1 at the center, and has a swelled part 8 and treatment substance charging section 3 at its lower. The treatment substance is a Mg alloy or Ca alloy which is added to molten metals while it is treated. A hollow or doughnut-shaped treatment substance 4 is fitted to charging section 3 installed below swelled part 8. A clearance 5 is prepared between charging section 3 and treatment substance 4, and a filler may be fitted to this clearance. Moreover, treatment substance 4 can be hung with wire 7. Steel pipe 9 is fitted to the inner surface of treatment substance 4 to protect the charging section. When treatment substance 4 is added into a molten metal with such type of bar plunger, surfacing of treatment substance 4 is prevented with swelled part 8, and the bar plunger can be used for a long period because it can be reinforced with steel bars.
