Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the mutual thermal interference of adjacent exothermic elements, to cool rapidly and to enhance printing speed by a method wherein the plural exothermic elements are arranged in a row, and even-numbered ones of the elements are driven alternately with odd-numbered ones to record picture information. CONSTITUTION:Common leads CH1-CH16 are bunched two by two into 8 sets of common leads (CH1, 2)...(CH15, 16), which are connected to the thermal head 101. Twelve signal wires B1-B12 are connected between a picture element register 201 and a character/picture element distributing and recording circuit 202, and an ODD/EVEN selecting circuit 203 is connected with the register 201 through a selection signal wire S. For example, an even-number selection signal is outputted, the even-numbered signal wires B2, B4... B12 are selected and pieces of the picture information each consisting of 6 bits are fed into the circuit 202. Based on the information, driving leads (1D1-2D6)...(15D1-16D6) are grouped into 12-member blocks, and a voltage is supplied to the even-numbered driving leads so as to cause even-numbered exothermic elements D2, D4...D96 to generate heat. Then, odd- numbered exothermic elements are caused to generate heat.
