Abstract

PURPOSE: A composition for sizing fiber used in friction material that is composed of specific amounts of a silane coupling agent, a surfactant, film-forming agent and other additives, thus giving friction materials of high strength and largely increasing the production operability.
CONSTITUTION: The titled composition comprises 0.001W10wt% of a silane coupling agent such as aminosilane, 0W50wt% of a surfactant (a cationic and/or nonionic one where the cationic is imidazoline and/or fatty acid amide type and the nonionic is 8W12 in HLB) and 0W100wt% of a film-forming agent (preferably epoxy, polyurethane or polyester resin). When glass fibers are treated with the resultant composition, they are improved in the power holding the above thermosetting resin to increase the production operability for friction materials and produce high- strength friction materials causing almost no roughness on the surface when abraded.
