Abstract
PURPOSE:To superfinish both surfaces of the share point of a cutter such as a veneer slicer by horizontally moving a pair of abrasive belts held so as to cross each other at the share point edge of a cutter, with the abrasive belts rotated towards the share point edge at equal speeds. CONSTITUTION:One handle 38 is turned to rotate a screw shaft 27 in order to allow, through a guide plate 18, an abrasive belt 24 wound on upper and lower pulleys 17 and 22 to contact with the upper surface of a cutter 1 on a cutter holder 4. On the other hand, the other handle 28' is turned in the opposite direction to the handle 28 in order to allow a guide plate 18' screwed on a screw shaft 27' to move forwards until an abrasive belt 24' contacts with the lower surface of the cutter 1. Moreover, a prime mover 26 drives one supporting shaft 16 to turn, consequently the rotation of a pair of meshed gears 19 and 19' allows the other supporting shaft 16' to turn at the same speed in the opposite direction, and this causes the pair of abrasive belts 24 and 24' to rotate towards the share point edge of the cutter 1. Additionally, a prime mover 8 drives a pinion 12 to rotate so that the pair of abrasive belts 24 and 24' to move horizontally through a rack 13 to polish the upper and lower surfaces of the share point edge.
