Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible cleaning of the chlorohexydine used for disinfection and the yellow stains by this by immersing the contact lens in a predetermined urea soln.
CONSTITUTION: The contact lens having undergone pasteurization treatment is adsorbed and accumulated with chlorohexydine which is a sterilizer. The saccharides, amino acids, etc. in the adsorbed soln. are oxidized by light and this causes the lens to yellow. If the lens is immersed in a hypertonic soln. of urea of ≥10% concn., the soft lens is swollen and the urea soln. infilters the lens inside and is thence discharged; therefore the cleaning is promoted and these chlorohexydine and yellow stains are well removed. Thence, when rinsed, the lens shrinks to restore the original shape, thus the yellow stains may be cleaned and washed.
