Abstract

PURPOSE: A carrier for an insect repellent, usable by heat evaporation, having a heat-resistant and porous structure, a great retaining ability of a drug without accelerating the thermal decomposition thereof and with a high evaporation efficiency, and prepared by calcining a composition comprising a coarse particle component and a binder consisting of a low-melting glass composition.
CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising a coarse particle component, e.g. alumina or calcium carbonate, of high purity and 5W150 mesh particle size, and a binder consising of a low-melting glass composition is shaped and calcined to give a carrier for an insect repellent. Glass consisting of silica (SiO2), boron oxide (B2O3) and alumina (Al2O3) essentially, another name: borosilicate glass, is used as the binder. A mixture of the glass with an oxide of an alkali (earth) metal is preferably used. Preferably, a mixture of 100wt%. the coarse particle component with l5W30wt%. the binder and further an organic binder for facilitating the pelletization, e.g. methyl cellulose, is used.
