Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform mirror grinding in a short time by applying low-frequency vibrations and supersonic vibrations overlappingly to a grinder for superfinishing for preceding grinding and by making later the grinder surface clog by the low-frequency vibrations. CONSTITUTION:A magnetostrictive longitudinal vibrator 5 and an electromagnetic vibrator are operated simultaneously, the low-freuency vibrations and the supersonic vibrations are made to act overlappingly on the grinder 4 for superfinishing, the grinder 4 is made to vibrate in the axial direction, while it is pressed on the outer periphery of a substance 1 to be machined, which is rotating, with a prescribed load, wereby the superfinishing grind machining is performed. Next, the operation of the electromagnetic vibrator 7 is stopped and the grinder 4 for superfinishing is vibrated only by the low-frequency vibrations to cause the grinder surface 4 to clog, whereby the mirror grinding is applied to the substance 1.
