Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the entry of water into other cable parts owing to breakage of part of the cables by connecting the submarine cable of one repeating section divided to a plurality by means of a connector for watertight connection. CONSTITUTION:A submarine cable 1 is watertightly connected to one end of a metal sleeve 2, and a rubber melt-sticking tape 3 is melt-stuck to the joint part to protect the submarine cable 1. On the other hand, an end face plate 41 is watertightly welded to the other end of the metal sleeve 2, and the end face plate 41, the metal sleeve 2 and the submarine cable 1 are formed into one piece construction to maintain the inside of the metal sleeve 2 watertight. The optical fiber core 5 of the submarine optical cable 1 is connected by way of an end face plate 41 and 1/4 pitch rod lens 6. With such constitution, the watertight one piece construction is formed by the end face 41, the metal sleeve 2 and the submarine cable 1 and the optical cables 1 are successively connected by means of the connectors 4; therefore, even if water enters part of the submarine optical cables, the entry of water into the parts of the other submarine optical cables 1 may be prevented.
