Abstract
PURPOSE: A small amount of triethylisopentenylammonium iodide is used as a catalyst and a prenyl halide is made to react with a ketone in the presence of an alkaline condensing agent at a high reaction rate to produce an unsaturated ketone in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: Triethylisopentenylammonium iodide is used as a catalyst and the condensation reaction of a prenyl halide of formula I (X is Cl, Br, I) with a ketone of formula II [R, R' may form a ring together with CH2COCH2, when they do not form a ring, R, R' are H, 1-15C alkly, 2W15C alkenyl, when forming a ring, -R-R'- is alkylen of -(CR1R2)n-(R1, R2 are H, 1W5C alkyl; n is 1W3)] is conducted in the presence of an alkaline condensing agent such as sodium hydroxide to produce an unsaturated ketone. The reaction rate becomes more than 100 times that when another quarternary ammonium salt is used.
USE: Intermediate of perfume and carotenes.
