Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a resin composition for self-hardening mold which is so made as to develop initial strength early and permit taking a longer usable life by dissolving a resol type phenol-formaldehyde resin contg. virtually no low molecular weight components to the specific monomer.
CONSTITUTION: A resol type phenol-formaldehyde resin of about ≤5wt% in low molecular weight components such as one phenol-nuclues compound, two phenol- nuclear compound and their methylol compounds is prepared. 100Pts.wt. of this phenolic resin is dissolved in 50W900pts. of one or more kinds selected from furfuryl alcohol-formaldehyde resin, furfuryl alcohol-urea-formaldehyde resin and furfuryl alcohol monomer. The use of this resin composition results in faster initial hardening speed of the mold and enables a longer usable life to be taken because hardening reaction does not progress during the storage of coating sand.
