Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the current efficiency for formation of caustic alkali by using purified salt soln., by making salt soln. made by dissolving raw salt pass through a packed layer of chelating water-insoluble resin having iminodiacetic acid group at a specific pH and specific space velocity in order to obtain salt soln. to be electrolyzed. CONSTITUTION:Salt soln., made by dissolving raw salt contg. Mg, Ca, for use in the electrolysis of alkali chloride, is adjusted to 3-10pH. This saturated salt soln. is allowed to pass through a packed layer composed of chelating water-insoluble resin contg. epichlorohydrine polymer, which contains iminodiacetic acid group, as a parent body at <=20hr<-1> space velocity, hereby Mg, Ca contained in the salt soln. are removed. The purified salt soln. is electrolyzed by charging it to a mercury electrolytic sell for alkali salt. This electrolytic method improves the current efficiency for forming caustic soda and increases the preactical production of caustic soda.
