Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a deciding circuit of the multilevel QAM (orthogonal amplitude modulation) which does not require ROM of the large capacity, by combining the mapping circuit part and two kinds of deciding circuit parts. CONSTITUTION:A hexadecimal QAM signal which has been demodulated is provided to the input terminal 41, and is supplied to the first decision part 42 and the mapping part 43, respectively. The first decision part 42 decides to which this hexadecimal QAM signal belongs among the areas 0-7, in accordance with the eight border lines shown in the figure. The mapping part 43 converts the area by operation to one area of the eight areas, concerning the said hexadecimal QAM signal, and the second decision part 44 receives the conversion information and decides a corresponding ideal point by means of operation in accordance with the optimum border line. And the decision result relating to the area by the first decision part 42, and the information of the ideal point in the area 0 by the second decision part 44 are provided to the decoding part 45, and the decided data bit can be received from its output terminal 46.
