Abstract

PURPOSE: To know the flow rate easily from the level of liquid and the velocity of flow by measuring the level of liquid by means of an air-bubble-type liquid level detecting mechanism and also by measuring the velocity of flow based on the displacement of air bubbles discharge owing to the velocity of flow.
CONSTITUTION: Compressed air from a source of the compressed air 2 is discharged from a nozzle 6 into the liquid 1 flowing in an open conduit through the intermediary of an orifice 4. Back pressure in a pipe line 3 up to the nozzle 6 is lead to a piezoelectric transducer 5 through a branch pipe line 3b provided between the nozzle 6 and the orifice 4 and is outputted as an electric signal. Because the above back pressure is related to the water pressure applied to the nozzle 6, i.e. the level of the liquid, the signal outputted shows resultantly the level of the liquid. On the other hand, air bubbles 7 discharged are let to float off to above along the direction of the flow dependently on the velocity of the flow of the liquid 1. Accordingly, the amount of this displacement is detected by an air-bubble detector 8 while it is moved and is outputted as a signal for the velocity of the flow. The above-mentioned signals for the level of the liquid and for the velocity of the flow are multiplied by a multiplier 15 to obtain a signal for the flow rate, and thus flow rate is indicated by a recorder-indicator 16.
