Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the coating of titanium carbonitride improved the machinability, by performing chemical vapor deposition of steel, etc. by mixed solution of tetrachlorotitanium containing a fixed quantity of cyclic hydrocarbon, in the atmosphere of hydrogen containing a fixed quantity of ammonia at a fixed temperature or less. CONSTITUTION:Mixed solution of tetrachlorotitanium containing 0.075-0.15mol. cyclic hydrocarbon (ethylbenzene or xylene) for 1mol. tetrachlorotitanium as titanium source and hydrocarbon source, is prepared in the method of obtaining the coating of practical use at a low treating temperature. Chemical vapor deposition treatment of steel, hard metal or cermet, etc., is performed by using said mixed solution in the hydrogen atmosphere used 0.5mol ammonia for 1mol tetrachlorotitanium as nitrogen source at 850 deg.C or less. Hereby, TiCN coating or practical use having a superior machinability, can be obtained.
