Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily heat an engine at a cold state when starting and reduce a power consumption of a heater made of PTC ceramic by disposing in a suction port a combination of two heating parts of said heater and another using hot cooling water and exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: When a key switch 81 is closed at starting of a cold engine, a PTC ceramic heater 6 at a low temperature reaches a Curie point at a moment to cause a rapid rise in a temperature of a heating plate because a low electric resistance of the heater 6 allows a large current flow. However a part of fuel in a mixture from a carbureter 1 is turned into big dews and rests on the heating plate 7, the fuel is changed into fine mist or evaporated by heating the heating plate 7 and sucked into a combustion chamber. When a temperature of a cooling water flowing around a container 47 which contains the heater 6 rises up to a specific temperature, an electric resistance of the heater 6 grows and the heat is automatically reduced so that a power consumption may be minimized.
