Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover Zn, iron, etc. from electrically collected dust and utilize them as useful products again by treating the dust with sulfuric acid, separating a zinc sulfate soln. from iron-contg. residue, and recovering Zn from the soln. as ZnCO3 and iron, etc. from the residue by magnetic concn.
CONSTITUTION: Electrically collected dust contg. ZnO, PbO, FeO, MnO, CdO, etc. and generated in the mnufacture of reduced pellets is slurried and adjusted to 0.5W 2.0pH with concd. sulfuric acid to leach Zn. This zinc sulfate fluid is separated into a zinc sulfate soln. and iron-base residue by solid-liq. separation. NaClO is added to the soln., and while adding Na2CO3 the soln. is kept at 4.0W5.0pH and regulated to 1,000W1,100mV oxidation potential with NaClO or Cl2 blown to separate Fe2+ and Mn2+ by precipitation. Zn dust is then added to the iron-free soln. to remove Cd, Pb, Cu, etc., and this zinc sulfate purified soln. is adjusted to 7.0W7.5pH with Na2CO3. The resulting precipitate is dried and calcined to recover activated zinc white. On the other hand, the leaching residue is subjected to magnetic concn. to separately recover magnetized and nonmagnetized substances.
