Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture an anhydrous quartz glass tube continuously and inexpensively by hydrolyzing a silane compound in a liq. phase after which the resulting tubualr silicic acid gel is dehydrated by heating in an atmosphere contg. a halogen- contg. dehydrating agent and vitrified. CONSTITUTION:To an alcoholic soln. of a silane compound such as Si(OCH3)4 or SiCl4 as a glass forming compound is added water to such a degree that hydrolysis is not caused at ordinary temp., and this mixture is introduced into tube forming device 4 with feeder 1 and hydrolyzed by heating to about 60-80 deg.C to form silicic acid gel tubualr body 6. While introducing halogen-contg. dehydrating agent such as SOCl2 or CCl2 into atmosphere control chamber 7 with feeder 9, tubular body 6 is dehydrated by heating to about 700 deg.C with heater 8 having about 200-1,200 deg.C temp. gradient, and then it is vitrified by heating to about 1,200 deg.C.
