Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to recognize the meaning of a character or symbol, by combining a code characteristic to the character or symbol to be recognized and then by reading the code by a machine.
CONSTITUTION: For example, when character "shiki" is generated, black information at a predetermined middle point of the character is bianked. Namely, when character "shiki" consists of 64×64=4096 dots, the 11th, 31st and 51st dots are laterally blanked in white as shown in the figure. Therefore, the characteristic code of the character as a length of 64 units and further has the 11th, 31st and 51st bits set. The thus recognized code can be found to be character "shiki" by referring to previously-prepared dictionary patterns. Consequently, many characters and symbols can be discriminated and read out by combinations of bit positions blanked in white in a linear-spectrum shape.
