Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the resin composition effective for small-size lenses having high refractive indexes by performing copolymerization of nuculeus-substituted styrene and a monomer having unsaturated bonds having no benzene nuclei or nucleus substitution reaction of the polymer having benzene nuclei.
CONSTITUTION: The composition is constituted by the copolymer of 10W95wt% nucleus-substituted styrene and 5W90wt% monomer having one or a purality of unsaturated double bonds having no benzene nuclei or the nucleus-substituted reactant of the copolymer having benzene nuclei. For example, 75mol% 4-styrene iodide and 25mol% aryl diglycol carbonate as the resin composition are added with 2wt% based on the total weight of the monomer of diisopropyl peroxycarbonate as a radical polymerization initiator and the mixture is cast into lens molds and is allowed to react for 5hr at 50°C, 10hr at 60°C and 10hr at 70°C, whereby the composition is obtained. The refractive index of this composition is as high as 1.663 at 20° and its chromatic aberration is 38 in Abbe number.
