Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the leakage of dust and smoke produced during the moving of a quenching car into the atmosphere, by a method wherein a hood formed on the upper surface of the quenching car is connected through a duct to a dust-collecting car mounted with a wet type dust collector.
CONSTITUTION: A hood 1 is formed on the upper surface of a quenching car 5 which is self-propelled through a guide rail 13 and wheels 14, while the hood 1 is connected through a duct 8 to a dust-collecting car 4 mounted with a wet type dust collector 3 which is connected at the front of or in the rear of the car 5. Then a driving device 12 is operated to open louver valves 6. Coke from a coke oven is transferred into the car 5, and then the valves 6 are closed. The car is moved to a quenching tower while the dust collector 3 is operated to collect dust. Then the car 5 is stopped in place in the quenching tower, and the dust collector 3 is stopped. The valves 6 are fully opened by means of the device 12. Then the coke is exposed to the water spray and quenched. Waste water from the dust collector 3 is discharged to the settling tank of the quenching tower.
