Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled oligomer composed mainly of dimer, easily, by the polymerization of methylenecycloalkane, 1-methylcycloalkene or their mixture at about normal temp. using an extremely strong acid as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An oligomer of unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon is obtained by the polymerization of methylenecycloalkane (e.g. methylenecyclopentane, methylenecyclohexane, etc.), 1-methylcycloalkene (e.g. 1-methylecyclopentene, 1-mthylcyclohexene) or their mixture at ≥-30°C, preferably 0W80°C, using an extremely strong acid (e.g. sulfonic acid, perchloric acid, etc.) as a catalyst. Said oligomer can be easily obtained, since the above cycloalkane is isomerized to the correspond ing 1-methylcycloalkene and then polymerized. Compounds of formula I and formula II are mostly formed among the dimers of methylenecyclopentane.
