Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable to manufacture surely rims of a desired diameter and shape in cross section, by the ring rolling method for rims of bicycles etc., where the process is divided in a plurality of stages and mainly bead portion and then flange and drop parts are extended and formed.
CONSTITUTION: In order to manufacture rims 1 having a foot 2 on the internal periphery which is useful for fabricating spokes etc., an annular material M1 of the shape of rectangular cross section or the like is fit mounted successively between a pair of drive and press down forming rolls 7a, 8aW7e, 8e. And, while the forming roll pair is rotated, the roll gap is gradually allowed to contract. In the first stage, the desired material amounts for flange portion 5, bead portion 4 and drop portion 6 are distributed, and the metal amount corresponding to the bead portion is made to small. In the second stage, this portion is made further thiner, and in the third stage, this portion is made furthermore thiner and, at the same time, width of this portion is made wider. In the fourth stage, this width is made further wider to approach to a product shape at the same time. Finally in the fifth stage, the work is finished to a product 1.
