Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the reduction in the capability of sealing the gas pressure in a combustion chamber by a method wherein Ni-Resist having a coeficient of thermal expansion approximately equal to that of aluminum alloy is used as the material for the piston rings for an internal-combustion engines. CONSTITUTION:Ni-Resist having a coefficient of thermal expansion of 18X10<-6>, which is as high as that (about 18.6X10<-6>) of aluminum alloy, is used as the material for the piston rings for the cylinder liner of an internal-combustion engine made of aluminum alloy. Accordingly, the butt joint 7 of the piston ring is larger in operation than in cooled state, and it is not increased largely even when the cylinder liner expands. In addition, since the piston ring generally gats temperature higher than the cylinder liner, the clearance between the liner and the ring becomes smaller. Accordingly, the reduction in the capability of sealing the gas pressure is prevented.
