Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a buffering property and stabilize the directivity of a caster, by providing an elastic member, which comprises leaf springs and a coiled spring connected in series with each other, between a steering bearing and the bearing-supported part of a moving wheel.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of leaf springs 3, whose butts are attached to the bottom of a bearing 2 for a steering shaft 1, are inclined back. The free ends of the leaf springs are attached to a lower seat 5 for the cover 6 of a moving wheel 7. A tension type coiled spring 4 is provided between the lower seat 5 and upper seat 10 for the wheel cover 6. Since load is carried by the leaf springs 3 and the coiled spring 4, a buffering property is enhanced. The distance (d) between the axes of the moving wheel and the steering shaft is increased further by the deflection of the leaf springs 3 and the vertical tension of the coiled spring 4 acts effectively due to road surface resistance in movement so that a trailing property is heightened. As a result, the trailing property of a caster is enhanced as a whole and the directivity of the movement is stabilized.
