Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the nonalignment of rolls during casting, by measuring the distance between rolls and the distance of throughcore from the mold with a load- setting apparatus inserted between the rolls arranged face to face after the rolls are loaded. CONSTITUTION:A load-setting apparatus provided with hydraulic jack 1, which is capable of varying set load, is suspended between rolls by a crane. The distance of the rolls depends on the stroke of the jack 1 and the thickness of a shim plate 2 fixed to a block 5. When the distance of the supporting rolls 6 is changed, the block 5 is set to the rolls 6 with the number of joined links of adjusting chain changed. The load applied from roll side is received directly with a carriage 8 through the roll arranged at the support position 10 of a roll frame 7. The condition is maintained at the same condition as that during casting by increasing the load applied to the high- pressure hose 4 of the jack 1 by a pump. At that time the distance between rolls and the distance of through-core from the mold are measured. After completion of the measurement the load is removed from the jack 1, and the block 5 is pulled up at initial conditions by a spring 9 thereby completing the centering of the rolls.
