Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the membrane from being damaged by a method wherein an upper and a lower end of a leading rod supporting an anode plate of a cation exchange membrane are fixed to a frame of an electrolytic cell and the anode plate is connected to the leading rod by a shrinkable member as well as a shrinkage regulating member is inserted between anode plates. CONSTITUTION:An ion exchange membrane is constituted from the leading rod supporting the anode plate as well as passing electric current and a pair of anodes opposed at both sides of the leading rod. The anode plate of this anode structure pref. comprises a porous sheet material, e.g., a lath net. The leading rod is connected and fixed to the frame of the electrolytic cell at an upper and a lower end thereof and the anode plate is divided into plural sections in a vertical direction and each of them is connected to the leading rod through an appropriate connecting member in a shrinkable manner. Moreover, between anode plates, a shrinkage regulating member comprising a platinum group metal or one obtained by coating titanium with a platinum group metal or an oxide thereof is inserted to prevent the anode plates from excessive shrunkage.
