Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce circulation phenomenon due to electromagnetic force in an electrolytic furnace of long-side parallel-placed type and having risers only at the short side by a method wherein part of cathode bus at upstream side of the furnace is guided to the lower space of the furnace and is devided to the left and right in the lower space at the downstream side of the furnace.
CONSTITUTION: From current collector rods 7 protruded to the upstream side edge of an electrolytic furnace, part of current is collected to cathode buses 13. The current passes the outside of the short side of the furnace, through cathode buses 14 parallel to the short side, and is supplied to risers 8. The other part of current is collected to cathode buses 15, then is devided to the left and right in the space below the furnace, which is parallel to the short side of the furnace and is separated by distance (a) from the center line in the short side direction. The current passes the space under the furnace which is parallel to the long side of the furnace and separated by distance (b) from the center line in the long side direction. The current then passes through cathode buses 17, is taken to the outside of furnace short side, then through cathode buses 18 parallel to the short side, and is supplied to risers 8 in the next downstream side furnace. The (a) and (b) are determined so that the sum of the absolute value of vertical magnetic field is symmetrical and minimum in the range of molten aluminum.
