Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled resin having high dispersing effect at a small amount, imparting water resistance and weather resistance to a resin, and useful as an emulsifier, etc., by reacting an alkylene oxide with a copolymer of a carboxyl- containing monomer, a vinyl monomer and an organic thiol.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 10W90pts.wt. of one or more ethylenic unsaturated monomers having a carboxyl group (e.g. acrylic acid), (B) 0W60pts.wt. of one or more unsaturated vinyl monomers other than the component (A), e.g. vinyl acetate, and (C) 0.5W40pts.wt. of an organic thiol compound of formula (R is organic group; l is an integer of 1W4), e.g. n-octylmercaptan, are copolymerized togeter. The objective resin is prepared by adding one or more alkylene oxide derivatives (e.g. ethylene oxide) to the copolymer thus obtained, and esterifying 0.5W80% of carboxyl groups in the polymer.
