Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a memory for convergence without lowering resolving power, by storing only the difference between adjacent elements and the signs of the elements as data for the convergence and sequentially adding or subtracting the stored data to converge an ultrasonic beam. CONSTITUTION:The difference (0 or 1) between converging delay quantities, which are applied to adjacent elements, and the sign (+ or -) of each quantity are stored in a memory 6. The stored data are read through two transmission lines at every application of a clock pulse CP1. One's own output and the output of the memory 6 are repeatedly added or subtracted on the basis of the sign data. A value resulting from the addition or subtraction is applied to deflecting data by an adder 5. According to this constitution, the capacity of the memory for convergence can simply be reduced without lowering resolving power.
