Abstract
PURPOSE: A heat generator which can give a crack in a thick glass plate within a short time, prepared by laying an ignition agent layer upon a base agent layer which generates heat by oxidation, so as to form a long, narrow strip of the agents.
CONSTITUTION: There is used a combination of an ignition agent layer comprising a composition containing metal oxides (oxides of copper, iron and lead) and a metal (aluminum or silicon) and a base agent layer comprising a composition prepared by mixing the above composition with a combustion stabilizer (aluminum oxide or bentonite). A frame-form heating container 5 formed so as to confine the predetermined area is filled with a heat generator 1 (prepared by laying an ignition agent layer 3 upon a base agent layer 2) to form a heating device 4. Then, the heating device 4 is so placed on a thick glass plate 6 that the base agent layer 2 contacts with the surface of the glass 6. Then, the ignition agent layer is kindled by an ignition means 9. By burning of the ignition agent layer the base agent layer 2 ignites and burns generating heat. Thereby, a frame-form crack along the heating container 5 is formed in the glass plate 6.
