Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of a heat-resistant cushion material which is of high unit cost as a raw material and thereby lower the cost in an exhaust gas cleaning device, by making the height of the outer periphery of a heat-resistant cushion substantially same as the periphery of a catalyst carrier. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst carrier 2 is supported through a supporter 3 inside a vessel 1, and by this arrangement a certain separating distance is maintained between the outer periphery of the catalyst carrier 2 and the inside wall face of the vessel 1. A heat-resistant cushioning material 4 retained by a retainer 6 contacts and presses the outside periphery of both ends of the catalyst carrier 2, and this retainer is in turn pushed inside to the catalyst carrier 2 from outside by a stopper 5. The whole unit is fixed by welding the gap between this stopper 5 and the vessel 1. Here the periphery of a ring-shaped heat-resistant cushioning material 4 is made to be nearly of the same height as the outer diameter of the catalyst carrier 2.
