Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an optically brightened polyester suitable for fibers having high pilling resistance, by adding a specific optical brightener and a boron compound to a polyester before spinning.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester composed mainly of ethylene terephthalate unit (≥70 wt%) is mixed, before spinning, with (A) 0.01W2.0wt% of a boron compound (esp. boric acid) and (B) 0.005W1.0wt% of an optical brightener having a maximum absorption wavelength of 330W440nm and a maximum radiation wave length of 400W500nm, [esp. 7-[2H-naphtho-(1,2-d)triazol-2-yl]-3-phenylcoumarine]. The addition of (A) is pref. carried out before the polycondensation reaction, and that of (B) is before the polycondensation reaction or during or after the drying of polyester chips.
EFFECT: The falling off of the additives in the following processes is suppressed, and the brightening and antipilling effects are improved.
