Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the resolution of a rotary sensor by forming detection parts of fixed pitches by bending a magnetic resistance element.
CONSTITUTION: Substrate 4, holding the strength of a sensor, has magnetic resistance element 2 vapor-deposited. Element 2 is the part that detects information recorded on a recording medium and composed of lead-wire fitting parts R1 and R2 to which lead wires are soldered, detection parts R3, R5, R7 and R9 that detect magnetic flux, and gang parts R4, R6 and R8. Lead-wire fitting parts R1 and R2 should be wide in width. Further, detection parts R3, R5, R7 and R9 should be several tens μ in width because of the relation between sensitivity and current density. Arranging detection parts R3, R5, R7 and R9 at pitch one (n)-th recording wavelength λ (n is ≥2 integer) resistance variations of them put out of phase at pitch λ/n, so that resolution (n) times the recording density can be obtained.
