Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the bumping of a vehicle in tow from occurring on a downward slope, by automatically applying a braking force to the vehicle in tow in accordance with a relative speed of a towing vehicle and the vehicle in tow and a compensating weight of the vehicle in tow.
CONSTITUTION: When a towing vehicle 1 having a vehicle 10 in tow runs on a slope or a bumpy road, the vehicle 10 in tow is in a braking force-applied state irrespective of an operation of a brake system in the towing vehicle 1. Since a brake pedal 2 is not operated, no air pressure is supplied to a pipe 9, and a pressure switch 17 is turned on to supply an output signal to a controller 24. The controller 24 is adapted to select a control signal in a memory circuit 25, which corresponds to a braking force for the vehicle 10 in accordance with outputs from a detector 21 for a distance between the vehicles 1, 10, a detector 22 for the weight of the vehicle 10 and a detector 23 for an angle of inclination of the vehicle 10. A servo valve 19 is controlled with the above-mentioned control signal, and an optimum braking force is applied to a brake cylinder 14.
