Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the grounding pressure and tracting power of a towing tractor by forming an end portion of a chassis of the tractor in the shape of a U to provide an outer end-opened recess, and providing in the recess a means for drawing a nose tire onto a vertically movable platform installed in the recess.
CONSTITUTION: In order to transfer an airplane in an airport, a towing tractor is driven to bring it close to the airplane such that an outer end of a vertically movable platform 6 is opposed to a front portion of a nose tire of the airplane. Platform- actuating cylinders 8, 8' are then extended to lower the platform 6 to the ground surface, and the tractor is driven again to bring a front end portion of the platform 6 into contact with a front lower portion of the nose tire. A nose drawing cylinder 9 is then extended to bring a front end portion of a piston fitted therein into engagement with a tractable portion of a nose gear of the airplane. The cylinder 9 is then backwardly operated to place the nose tire on the platform 6. The platform 6 is raised, and the tractor is driven to tow the airplane.
