Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an additive suitable for continuous casting at a high speed by using a swelled coal as an effective component.
CONSTITUTION: A granular swelled coal as an additive for a casting mold used for a high-speed continuous casting is supplied onto the surface of a molten metal, or an animal or vegetable oil or a solution of the oil in a solvent as an additive is supplied through a supply hole into the wall of a casting mold. The swelled coal is a solution of primary bitumen in a solvent which is obtained by swelling bituminous coal with a solvent, e.g., a hydrocarbon oil, an alcohol, an ether, a ketone, a halogenated hydrocarbon, a sulfurous compound solvent, a phenol, pyridine, an amine, etc., at approx. 380°C or less and under ordinary atmosphere or a pressure and then filtering ash or others present in the swelled coal for removal.
