Abstract
PURPOSE: To avoid direct contact of a side hull with a quay and to achieve ideal protection of the side hull by causing the fender to automatically move upwardly and downwardly in accordance with fluctuations in the draft line.
CONSTITUTION: A floating body 1 is supported at a predetermined position on a side hull 2 by guides 3, 3 which is integrally installed thereon so as to permit said body 1 to move in the vertical direction along the guides 3, 3. The floating body 1 is trapezoidal in its transverse cross-section, both side faces 1a, 1a of which are slidable upwardly and downwardly along the guides 3, 3. An impact receiving member 6 consisting of an elastic material such as rubber or synthetic resin is mounted on the end face 1c of the floating body 1. If necessary, a sponge body may be filled in a hollow portion of the floating body 1. In this construction, the floating body 1 moves upwardly and downwardly in accordance with fluctuations in the draft line and, thus, so-constructed fender can always be maintained at an appropriate position.
