Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance dispersion stability, transfer performance, cleanability, etc., by using a specified nonaqueous resin latex in the title developer with a pigment or a dye and said resin dispersed into a fluid dispersion medium.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer represented by general formula I (R is H or methyl and X is a group of formula IV, V, or VI) and a monomer represented by general formula II (X' is a group of formula VII or VIII) are copolymerized (step a), and the obtained copolymer is esterified (step b). The obtained ester is graft-polymerized with a monomer represented by general formula III (X" is COOR', R' being a fluorine-containing organic group), or a mixture of said monomer of formula III and a vinyl monomer, such as acrylic acid or styrene (step c), and the obtained latex is used as a resin for a developer. In step (a) a monomer represented by formula III may be used as the third constituent to form a terpolymer, and in this case in step (c) the graft polymerization may be carried out by using only said vinyl monomer except said monomer of formula III.
