Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Anthranilic acid derivatives of formula I (R1 is H, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl; R2 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl).
EXAMPLE: o-(m-Trifluoromethylanilino)benso(N-ethylamide).
USE: Selective herbicide of herbicidal activity with a wide spectrum. Especially, they are effective in rice paddy even in small amount application with no side-effect. Further, they show herbicidal effect also on weeds in crop fields.
PROCESS: The reaction between a compound of formula II (X is lower alkoxy, Cl). Anthranilic ester or chloride, and a lower alkyl or alkenylamine affords the compound of formula I. The reaction between an anthranilic acid ester and an amine is effected in an aqueous medium at room temperature and the reaction between the acid halide resulting from halogenation of anthranilic acid and an amine is conducted in an inert solvent such as methylene chloride at 10°CW room temperature.
